there are people who understand english better than they speak it. My mother's side of the family is from cyprus. My Nene (grandmother) speaks english, but there are words she has trouble pronouncing or can't always remember. English is one of the most difficult languages to learn. she gets a lot of nasty looks, racist remarks, and people speaking to her like she's a stupid child because sometimes she cannot express herself as well as your average american can. or simply because they hear an accent and automatically think that she can't understand them. yet, she understands english perfectly well.
don't come down on people because they speak a different language and may not understand yours as well as you'd like. it can take years to learn a language, especially one like english, where we have words that sound alike, yet have totally different meanings (there, they're, their, ect). Besides that, there are people whose first language is english, and they can't speak it properly. just look at our president.

I don't mean to sound like a racist, i'm not a racist at all, but it pisses me off because i live in a ghetto and of course i'm the only white person still living here. But if i need help, they don't speak english, they never understand anything. It pisses the shit out of me.
Just last night when i was working a polish lady wanted to buy a pair of shoes. I told her the total and she said "No english" so i'm standing there thinking to myself "What the fuck are wrong with people's heads?" seriously, your gonna go shopping and not understand english?
My assitant manager was next to me (who is spanish) and asked "you speak spanish?" and the lady goes "i polish" At this moment i had no fuckin clue what to do, she couldnt understand anything.
Since she didn't understand, she gives me her wallet, PEOPLE ARE DUMB, YOU GIVE SOMEONE YOUR WALLET???? Of course i wasn't going to be sneaky and steal money, so i just took a 100 out and gave back her change.
It just really agravates me...

hah it was just a joke but this is fun.
Where have you been Ms Vader?, haven't seen you posted in a long time.
I used to work in a tourist shop back in Victoria.
we had to deal with people from everywhere...
and oddly enough, the worst were the Americans...
questions like
"are your prices in $US?"
yeah, that's why it's called Canada...
or "do you take dollars?"
no, lady, we only deal in beaver pelts and whale blubber...christ...
that and the guy who thought I was Korean...WTF!?!?
there was this German couple that had a hard time understanding the way sales tax worked there too... that got scary.
side note, the broad that asked if the prices were in American...I said yes, charged her, did the exchange after she left and pocketed the difference.
I understand how you feel and agree 100%. If you want to live and work in this country, then learn to speak the fucking language. There's nothing prejudice or racist about it...I wouldn't dare go to live in another country and expect other people to compensate for the fact that I want to live there, but won't bother to learn the language they speak. There's nothing wrong with having a really heavy accent or speaking in broken english...but if it makes it so you can't communicate with other people at your JOB, then there's no real excuse for that IMO.
Yep, there he is, the brown guy with the thing
